sample of Adagio and Fuga (tracks 1 & 2) [2'14'']

“Once I had the 8 string guitar, I could start performing the Sonatas and Partitas as a single work without breaking in-between works for retuning. I had already performed the set on three separate tours when Delos invited me to make a recording with them, and consequently this was the first project that sprang to mind. It still isn’t that accepted a view to regard this set as a single integrated work, but with every performance I gave, I felt even more strongly that this is how it was conceived. This is why I asked Delos to release the set complete as a double CD, and not split it over two separate single albums.

When I went in to record, I ended up doing three projects simultaneously. Besides the Sonatas and Partitas, I also began recording the Haydn Sonatas, which were included in the album released a year later, and the Folk Songs, which were released later still. They were long and inspiring sessions and I enjoyed them thoroughly."
